12 / January / 2008 - Biewer Terrier Club of America Announces Acceptance to the American Rare Breed Association.
"With our acceptance into ARBA, we are moving closer to AKC and UKC recognition and it is vitally important to have an accurate Biewer Terrier stud book/registry in America. The Biewer Terrier is not a Yorkshire Terrier so it is imperative that our paper work reflect our pedigree information accurately for the purebred Biewer Terrier," said Gayle Pruett, president of the Biewer Terrier Club of America.
"We have tested almost 100 dogs to date. The results clearly show that the Biewer Terrier is a separate breed.
With the information that we are gathering and with what Mrs. Biewer has shared with us, we have written a standard that best fits the Biewer Terrier. There is no sense in breeding to a standard set for Yorkies when we do not have Yorkies," she said.
According to Pruett, it is AKC’s recommendation that the mother club have a studbook and preferably its own registry. The BTCA has created a registry for Biewer Terrier breeders in America to have a convenient, reliable, accurate database for easy transition into the premier dog clubs of America. Mrs. Biewer has stated that the BTCA needs to have its own registry and that our dogs must be registered in our own country. She is excited about the progress we are making with our dogs and continues to give us her support.
In order to have and maintain a respectable registry free of political complications the BTCA has opted to use an established independent firm to hold and maintain all records and pedigrees. To insure the safety of our database it will be maintained using a state of the art registry/pedigree software program with multiple licenses to allow for separate, geographically distant individuals to maintain duplicate registry records. This is the first and only purebred Biewer Terrier registry to allow open access to complete studbook and pedigree information to our associate breeders.
You are free to register your dogs wherever you feel comfortable. If you are showing with ARBA we ask you to register with ARBA and also encourage you to register with BTRA. You may visit the BTRA site for additional information about the registry. http://biewerterrierregistry.com
You do not have to be a member of the BTCA to register your dogs. We are working hard to establish quality purebred Biewer Terriers and feel having access to your studbook is of prime importance. You will be able to cross reference your breeding dogs and make educated decisions in pairing your breeders.
As we continue to move forward in the development of the Biewer Terrier we thank you for your continued support and appreciate your dedication to the betterment of the best breed on Earth.
